Cyber Safety - Susan McLean - Cyber Cop
Australia’s foremost expert in the area of cyber safety Susan McLean was a member of Victorian Police for 27 years. Widely known as the ‘cyber cop’ she was the first Victoria Police Officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people.
Susan is a passionate advocate for child safety online and has established an enviable working relationship with most of the key players in the online world who value her extensive knowledge, balanced commentary and commitment.
Over the course of the next few weeks we will add a link in The Week Ahead which will help support parents and students with the navigation of the online world. This week's link is about Internet Facts v Internet Fiction.
Special Persons' Day
Year 7 Special Person’s Day will take place next Wednesday 31 July.
We are hoping that all students will have an older relative or special friend to bring along to share the day.
There will be a special liturgy, morning tea and shared activities while the visitors are on site. Followed by some activities for students that will connect to their learning in RE and looking forward to the people they wish to be.
If you have not already RSVP’d your numbers, please contact the O’Keeffe Office on 5592 5353 ASAP for catering.
Student Digest - A Snapshot of Progress

- Attendance - Including overall attendance, parent notified, late to school, leave passes, sick passes and class attendance percentage.
- Learning Areas - Including active tasks, submissions, overdue tasks and formal non-submissions.
- School Activities - Upcoming and current
- Social Behaviour - Commendations.
The first email will be sent to parents on Monday 29 July at 7.00am.
French Incursion Days
Once again, after the success of last year's day, we have been able to secure Sarah and her team from The University of Melbourne to give the Year 8 students the opportunity to participate in The Heist. This is an immersive escape room experience that puts French language knowledge to the test. Students work in teams to solve exciting bilingual puzzles and recover the stolen artifact before it’s too late.
All Year 8 students will get a chance to be involved in this 1 hour 40min experience over the course of Thursday 1 or Friday 2 August.
Shave for Breast Cancer Next week!!!
Our Year 12 students have been very busy organising a fundraising event for Breast Cancer. Week 4 (Tuesday 6 August) will see our students shave their heads, cut their hair and have their legs waxed while raising money for a cause that is very close to our hearts. We will celebrate with a whole-school event in the afternoon watching the waxing, head shaving and participating in games that will also raise money for breast cancer.
The online donations have exceeded $18,000. Next week we will commence the online auction of Carlton, Geelong and Brisbane football jumpers as well as promote the raffles that have been generously donated by our local businesses. If you would like to make a donation, please click on the link. We are still looking for donations for prizes for raffles. If you think you may be able to offer something, we love to hear from you.

Reminder: Student Illness or Absence and Medical Certificates
Now that we are into Term 2 and the weather is beginning to turn, it will be important for senior students to source medical certificates if they miss school due to illness. This can form evidence for special consideration in the case of extended absences, which are always unpredictable.
As we have clocked over halfway through the year, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to contact the school if your son/daughter is going to be absent. Please call and inform the office on 5593 2011.
Students Driving to School
If any students who have their driving licence and are intending to drive to school, please call in to see Rose to collect the form to register the details.
